Amitava will be accompanied by tabla player Shiv Shankar Ray and by santoor player Shruti Adhikari on Friday and Sunday. Tabla player Prodyut Mukherjee will also accompany him on Sunday.
Amitava was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, in a musical ambience. Being a leading Sarode (Indian Classical String Instrument) player and graded artist of India, he took training from Lt. Ustd. Dhyanesh Khan, ustd. Ashish Khan, Smt. Amina Perera and none other than Lt. Ustd. Ali Akbar Khan. He performs all over India & abroad with laudable success. Many of his student received National Scholarship from Govt. of India. Amitava performed with legendary tabla maestros like Pt. Shankar Ghosh & Pt. Swapan Chowdhury. He worked with Pt. Birju Maharaj (legendary Katthak dancer).
He became attracted and inspired by the magical effect of music of great Sarode Maestro, late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and started learning the Sarod from late Ustad Dhyanesh Khan, son of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Ustad Dhyanesh Khan, the distinguished maestro gave him training for many years and became his mentor.
Amitava became a graded Artiste of All India Radio & Television, and had a number of successful tours abroad, performing concerts and conducting workshops, which were highly appreciated.
He has composed many musical compositions including some for fusion music which were highly appreciated, and formed a Band named “Atman-The Spirit”. The music has been conducted and composed by him. The group has performed all over India and highly appreciated.
Presently Amitava is teaching in one of the most prestigious educational institutions of Kolkata, The Heritage School, being the only teacher in the department of Indian Classical Music (String Instrumental).
A CD comprising Amitava’s solo recital with renowned Tabla player Pt. Suvankar Banerjee has been released.
