North Indian Classical Sitar Recital – Mick Taylor

NORTH INDIAN CLASSICAL SITAR RECITAL

Mick Taylor is widely acknowledged as a fine exponent of the difficult ‘gayaki-ang’ or vocal style of sitar playing.

He is one of very few westerners to have gone so deeply into the study of the history, theory and practice of the subject and to have achieved the status of solo concert artist.

His playing is especially noted for its depth of feeling and for its authenticity.

Together with his wife, the distinguished Kathak dancer Alpana Sengupta, he has worked for over thirty-five years to establish, develop and maintain a wider interest in Indian music and dance throughout Britain.

As a professional musician, he regularly performs concerts and in festivals throughout Britain and Europe as well as in India and has composed and provided music for television and films as well as for several Indian dance productions.

He has recently had the unique distinction of being the first sitar player outside of India to be invited by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations to give a series of major concerts in Delhi, Kolkata and Jaipur.

“………an inspiring recital showing craftsmanship that was evident in his recitals in Kolkatta this month, as well as an understanding of the emotional bonds that must be established with Indian audiences.”
