Ruth Rowland is an award-winning lettering artist, over the past 20 years she has worked on an exciting range of projects, from book titles, album lyrics and packaging to worldwide advertising campaigns. Clients include Coca Cola, Sir Paul McCartney, Dr Who, Chrissie Hynde and Volkswagen Motorsport.
Ruth’s work is all about letters. She likes to combine old and new technology – in her studio you’ll find antique dip in pens and Japanese brushes lying next to her digital pen and tablet. The craft of hand drawn lettering and calligraphy is an essential part of her work process. Surrounded by samples from her studio, she’ll be talking about the commissioning process from initial ink to final digital file, the link between craft and graphics in a fast changing world and demonstrating traditional and contemporary hand lettering with some of her favourite pens and brushes.
