Sounding Bowls have come from a meditation. Tobias Kaye was ‘given’ a picture of a wooden bowl with a tuned string running inside it during a meditation in 1986 apparently in answer to his question of how people might benefit from the remarkable acoustics he had discovered in certain turned forms.
Still in continuous development at around number 350 Sounding Bowls are now in use all over the world with sound healers, meditants and therapists feeding back remarkable results to Tobias.
The unique inner curvature of each Sounding Bowl gives a warm and rich acoustic to the sound of the bronze wound strings creating an instrument of remarkable power for it’s small size.
Tobias and his apprentices work from local trees taking the wood through all the stages of drying, shaping and finishing.
The pattern of string on each instrument is laid out with great exactitude, especially those that cross each other in a pattern unique to Sounding Bowls to give excellent tone to each note.
The beauty of looks, sound texture and colour all combine to touch and open peoples hearts in a way rarely possible in the rush and troubles of modern life.
