6 – Portrait Painting I: Jeffery Courtney

Portraits have been one of the most fascinating and enduring of all genres of art because we are endlessly interested in ourselves – human beings.

On the course we will tackle the how of portrait painting, look at some examples of the Masters and produce our own painting.  Beginning with drawing, we will consider the basic proportions of the head, light and shade and three dimensional form and colour.  We will look at what gives the more subtle aspects of character and expression to a face, also the placing of the figure within the format of the painting.

From the course you will learn the basics, have an understanding of how to approach the subject and discover something of the fascination of portrait painting.

Portrait Painting I and II could be taken together and modified to create a 4 day course for those who would like to take their studies further.

Refreshments

Tea and coffee will be provided each day on arrival and in the afternoon.  Lunch – students can either bring their own lunch or at Waterperry there are delicious lunches at the Tea Shop and in London there are various local eateries.

If we have to cancel your course before it starts we will give you a full refund or you can choose to transfer to another advertised course if spaces are available. If you cancel your booking up to 21 days before the course begins, and do not chose to transfer to another advertised course you will receive a 50% refund. If you cancel after that period the booking is non-refundable and non-transferable. However, if we are able to fill the vacant place we will give you a 50% refund
