27 – Calligraphy: the Art of Writing Beautifully: Josie Brown

The lettering arts can be applied to a wide range of other art forms, including textiles, ceramics, wood/stone carving or book making, in addition to being a therapeutic and thoroughly absorbing pastime.  This course offers the ideal opportunity to introduce beginners to the skills involved, and for those with prior experience to develop new approaches and techniques.  

Beginners will learn how to use the broad-edge pen, working through lower case and capital letterforms, as well as using different colour mediums, background effects and design skills to create a final piece of work of their choice.  Others, who wish to improve existing skills, can choose from a variety of applied processes such as embossing, gilding or bookmaking, or immerse themselves in learning a new script and developing their individual version.  Everyone will complete one or more small projects.

Refreshments

Tea and coffee will be provided each day on arrival and in the afternoon.  Lunch – students can either bring their own lunch or at Waterperry there are delicious lunches at the Tea Shop and in London there are various local eateries.

If we have to cancel your course before it starts we will give you a full refund or you can choose to transfer to another advertised course if spaces are available. If you cancel your booking up to 21 days before the course begins, and do not chose to transfer to another advertised course you will receive a 50% refund. If you cancel after that period the booking is non-refundable and non-transferable. However, if we are able to fill the vacant place we will give you a 50% refund
