Kim’s work and life are inspired by the natural world. Recent ventures have taken her to the Himalayas researching Snow Leopard habitat, on camping safaris to Botswana and to the Bass Rock in Scotland to draw gannets. Her paintings of wildlife and animal subjects have attracted customers from around the world including HRH Princess Michael of Kent. Royal Doulton and Blenheim Palace. She regularly exhibits with the Society of Equestrian Artists, The Society of Feline Artists and the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art.

Kim’s paintings are produced using primarily acrylics, which she has been using for over 30 years in her illustration work. She also uses mixed media, combining oils, watercolours, acrylics and pastels to achieve a variety of textures and effects. A training and career as a wildlife illustrator has had a direct influence on the way Kim works. She has always enjoyed painting the intricate and intriguing textures, patterns and colours found in nature and her vibrant paintings are characterised by these details. Reference material is gathered on her travels with artwork evolving back in her Hampshire based studio from an assortment of thoughts, items, photos, written notes and sketches. Use of bold bright colours and contrasts is another feature of Kim’s work and she believes colour can have a positive impact on our moods and energy.

Becoming involved in conservation has become an important part of Kim’s life as a painter of the natural world and she supports a number of conservation organisations. In 2012 and 2013 she worked with Arts for Conservation in Botswana, a project set up to teach art in a rural community on the edge of the Kalahari Game Park. Kim also leads wildlife art safaris to Botswana.

Kim will be demonstrating how she progresses her wildlife paintings from her reference material and will have a selection of finished paintings and drawings on show throughout Art in Action.
