Over 600 volunteers are needed every day to provide the high level of service which is a tradition of Art in Action.
Why Volunteer?
- It’s great fun.
- You get to meet and work with interesting people.
- You get to be a part of a show much loved by both the visitors and the artists invited to demonstrate.
- You will get the chance to experience the unique happiness that comes from fully looking after others in a friendly and supportive environment.
What are my options?
There are many opportunities to help at Art in Action – volunteers are needed to join teams providing general services and teams serving the artists more directly:
- Supporting a group of artists e.g. Textiles or Performing Arts.
- Site Hygiene – the show has been much praised for the high standards.
- Car parking – Art in Action has a remarkably effective parking team and working as part of it for a morning can be great fun.
- Stewarding.
- Practical Classes, Refreshments, Ice Cream and many more.
The organisers make every effort to ensure that volunteers are happy with the roles offered and a form is provided so that preferences and other relevant information can be communicated.
How much time do I need to give?
- For a first visit to Art in Action you may like to offer just one day.
- Many people find great pleasure in offering what they can, some people give 4 days or more to help before, during and after the show.
- Whatever your circumstances, there is a role for you, however long or short.
How do I sign up?
Click this link to take you to a form on Google Drive – it is designed to collect all the required information in a way that is as easy as possible. However, if preferred, please email direct [email protected] or call the Art in Action office 0207 381 3192.
It would be very helpful to have applications as early as possible and by 21 June at the latest. While every effort will be made to take account of preferences it is strongly recommended that those wishing to help in a specific area apply sooner rather than later.
What do I need to do to prepare before I come?
This year we are encouraging people to sign up to work with a particular team or section. Once you have signed up you will be contacted by the team to discuss your role. They will advise you of any requirements so that you come prepared. The most important thing is an open and willing heart.
What happens when I arrive at Art in Action?
Volunteers are asked to arrive by 8.40am for a meeting in the Staff Refreshments tent. This meeting brings people together and provides detailed information about the day. You will then join up with your team and proceed to your work area.
What about accommodation?
Volunteers have many options. Most prefer to camp on site and enjoy the company of fellow volunteers and artists. Some prefer to stay in local hotels or bed and breakfast. Details are posted on the website so have a look and book early
What about refreshments and food?
Lunch in the staff refreshments marquee is provided free of charge. Volunteers will have regular breaks and, if time allows, the opportunity to visit the demonstration areas and attend performances.
What time does the event close?
Activities finish by 6.00pm allowing half an hour to clear-up after the public closing time.
Thank you for your generosity.
